Closely based on Claire Keegan’s novel, this moving film tells the story of Bill Furlong, a coalman in a small town in Ireland. He works hard for his family but seems preoccupied. He comes across a girl locked in a coalshed at the local convent and takes matters into his own hands. Brilliantly portrayed by Cillian Murphy, fresh from his Oppenheimer Oscars success, the film gives us another insight into the cruel world of the Magdalene laundries.
